The donation is made by the food manufacturer to a registered charity which is undertaking ‘super good’ work in the community following nominations from its employees.

Craig Smith, Development Chef and EPD Technician at Baxters, has been involved with The WHY Project for a number of years and put the charity forward to receive the one-off donation.

Established in Edinburgh in 2018, The WHY Project aims to improve the lives of young people in the south west of Edinburgh through a variety of programmes designed to foster personal development, build life skills and grow confidence.

The donation will build on this work through the delivery of a programme called ‘Food, Mood & You’, which will use food as a practical tool to improve mental wellbeing, build essential life skills and strengthen social connection among young people in a safe and supportive environment.

Sabrina Tickle, joint founder of The WHY Project, commented: “We are so grateful to Craig for nominating us for the Super Good Award and to Baxters for this incredible donation.

“What we eat plays such an important part in our lives and our overall wellbeing. Thanks to the donation we will be able to create a whole new programme which teaches young people who access our services about the importance of food in a fun and engaging way. We are so excited and can’t wait to get the programme up and running.”

The programme will be delivered in conjunction with various partners and focus on practical skills and building confidence in the kitchen, the links between food, nutrition and mental health, budgeting and creativity with cooking.

Katy Baxter, Group Strategic Director of Brands at Baxters and lead of the Baxters Charity Committee, said: “The WHY Project is only the second recipient of the Baxters Super Good Award. Although we received many fantastic nominations from our employees for the award, we were really impressed by the work undertaken by the charity to nurture and develop young people in the south west of Edinburgh.

“Being able to enhance this through the Food, Mood & You programme is such an exciting prospect and we can’t wait to see the positive impact it will have.”

In addition to awarding the Super Good Award, Baxters will also be making a small donation to each of the eligible charities nominated for the award by its employees.
