The team stole the show with their healthy 'Souper Greens' soup. Comprising a delicious blend of peas, kale, spinach and broccoli stem along with leek and potato, their new culinary creation was accompanied by an inspiring and creative campaign featuring a fun promotional video which helped to perfectly convey the soup’s goodness and benefits.
Organised in partnership with DYW (Developing the Young Workforce) Moray, the Soup Challenge offers local young people an opportunity to take part in an interesting and engaging enterprise initiative covering many key aspects of the school curriculum whilst learning about the range of careers available in the food manufacturing sector locally.
This year, S2 pupils at five local high schools - Elgin Academy, Forres Academy, Lossiemouth High School, Milne’s High School and Speyside High School - participated in the Soup Challenge.
Pupils were tasked with creating a new soup which offered two health benefits and used local produce. In addition to coming up with the recipe and making the new soup, the teams also had to put together a presentation demonstrating their overall approach, including pricing, packaging, labelling and marketing.
Graeme Morrison, Head Judge and European Supply Chain Director at Baxters, commented: “Every year we are blown away by the creativity and innovation shown by the local young people taking part in the Soup Challenge. They never fail to impress and this year was no exception.
“Of course, that means selecting a winner was a challenge in itself for the judges! Congratulations to Ayla, Jessica and Sophie on their winning soup, Souper Greens Soup, and to all the finalists for their inspiring efforts and enthusiasm for the competition. We hope it has given them a real flavour for just how varied and interesting working with food can be!”
