This 12th Baxters Loch Ness Marathon and Festival of Running (29th September) has proved a record-breaking success.  The women’s course record was broken, both the men’s and women’s winners finished in first place in their debut marathons and the event racked up the highest number of runners to date, with over 9000 participants entering for the day’s five races.

Race Director Malcolm Sutherland said: “The weather was exceptional from the start of the day and all runners crossed the finish line in September sunshine.  More people than ever before have entered for this year’s races, and we were particularly pleased at the number of different nationalities taking part – over 30 countries were represented, from Australia, Brazil, Guatemala and USA to Spain, Romania and Italy, making this year one of the most international marathons yet.

“The Baxters Loch Ness Marathon has always been a favourite for first time marathon runners, and this year was no exception.  We hope everyone who took part enjoyed their experience and will come back and visit us again - with friends and family - and hep us maintain the upbeat and festival atmosphere of the weekend.”

Bill King, CEO of Baxters Food Group said: “Many congratulations to everyone who ran in the marathon and the other races today.  I’m always so inspired by the dedication from all the participants, who are running at all levels and ages, and impressed at the amount of money they raise for so many good causes.  Baxters Food Group is proud to be title sponsor of the Loch Ness Marathon and Festival of Running for the 12th year running.
“I’d also like to congratulate the winning Baxters team in the 10K Corporate Challenge – Cream of Baxters.  They and all the other participants should be very proud of their accomplishments.”

Paul Bush OBE, Chief Operating Officer for EventScotland said: “Scotland is the perfect stage for events, and what better way to showcase that than with the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon. The event can proudly boast to have one of the most spectacular routes in the world, and it is fitting that so many have once again enjoyed it in 2013, the year of natural Scotland. With stunning scenery and a packed programme, the event has once again proven itself as a highlight on our annual sporting calendar.”
